the dynamic duo.

Before my house became crowded with all my siblings, there were only two of us. observe.

this is me and my little brother, Jake. We're pretty much best friends. despite the many times we've threatened to throw knives at each other and run around the house chasing each other with my Woody doll...cause man. If you had the original Woody like I did, you know as well as I do how bad those boots hurt...anyway. I'll move away from violence.

Even after our sister was born, (and our brother..and our other sister..) it was still just kinda us, cause she was a baby, ya know? Momma called us "the dynamic duo"...it's stuck ever since.

[L] one month old jake and 2.5 year old me. [R] Jake and I in Canada. I was 7 and he was 4/5

chillin at Mimi's (love my vintage bathing suit/romper? it was legitimately something my Mimi kept from my mom and aunt...epic no?

Visiting my uncle in Idaho

Front yard bike riding...together...what you don't see is the part after this where he turned around and yelled at me....muahahaha.

this is my "I'm mature" face and Jake's "hey mom! I'm pushing a stroller!!!!!!" face. we played with baby dolls a lot... particularly house.

 ah, ginger kids.

coloring on the deck...we still have that table. yes. it's pretty amazing.

I saw a little mountain frog the other day while taking pictures (see below) and it reminded me of when my brother and I used to catch these little guys all the time. all the time.

and seeing this frog made me want to blog about my brother. because I love him and we're probably closer to each other than any of our other siblings, but that might be explained by the fact that we were the first two...eh, who knows.

xoxo,
ruthanne

note: he just came up to me and asked me if I had more farting power than him today. it's safe to say that we  are no longer related.

weekday wanderings: black && white

nail polishes. thought it looked kinda cool...no?

the boots. ♥ soaking up the sun outside. (note: I take at least one picture of my boots a week..so even if it's a terrible photo...it'll end up here...hehe)

British stamps. Cause Lucy lives in the UK. and she's just that awesome.

My new purple dress from miss Lucy! <3 that's the shade of purple it is...gorgeous, isn't it?!

Blurry mirror picture...but kind of cool none the less.

Recently decided this is my new favorite dramatic shot of myself. That is all.

-♥-

Yesterday I received a lovely package in the mail from one of my dear friends Lucy. Lucy is not only sweet and amazing but she is also British! Ah! love it. Anyway. This week there's a "little bit of everything" for photos. It's kind of a mix...but I made sure to get a picture of my boots in there...hehe! in the next couple weeks you'll be seeing some gorgeous elements of a Sierra Fall...ah. love it. but it takes forever to get here so just be patient...I promise, I'll get more interesting with my photos :)

vintage dress making equals love.

so I just purchased this lovely vintage fabric yardage from Donna over at her Etsy shop. I fell in love with it the instant I saw it. Totally fabulous! However. After thinking long and hard about it, I can't seem to decided which vintage dress pattern I should use it for!

Vintage Turquoise Green Polyester Fabric with polka dot print - 4 yard length x 44" width

Last week a lovely lady from my church complimented me on my vintage dress at church! Her and her husband proceeded to gush over the fact that I made it, and how wonderful it was. They then told me that his mother used to do a great deal of sewing, but moved a while back to the east coast, leaving all of her sewing things behind. Well. They informed me that next time they were at her old house, they would peek through her mounds of patterns and fabric to try and find something that might spark interest with me!

last Tuesday she called me up and told me she had a few things for me, and I was delighted! she stopped my my house and brought me two vintage patterns. simplicity 8584 and butterick 3578. I was originally going to use it for simplicity pattern, but I cannot decide anymore! So I need your opinion! here are the two patterns:

I cannot decide which one to use. dear me. please help.

love, ruthanne.

monday, string beans

this weekend was positively nauseating. Actually, this past week was positively nauseating. I, a sixteen year old named Ruthanne decided I would be bold and brave and get a booth in a local ladies craft fair. cue: laughter.

yes, indeed, a craft fair, my sixteen year old self, in a craft fair...selling fabric bows. So what do you suppose I did all last week? prepared for said craft fair. It was exhausting, but worth it in the end. I made some money, (yay!) and got to pretend I was 22 all day, for thats what most ladies who stopped by my booth guessed my age to be. silliness, but nonetheless, awesome. so now, what do you suppose I have to do, on this lovely day of beans? school. and some more school. and once I finish that school, I get to do even more school! oh, joy. so, alas, I have nothing much to say today, nothing more than I am really quite ready for to kill a mockingbird to move a little faster...I'm on chapter 8 and just kinda waiting for it to pick up. but I haven't been reading it as consistently as I should, so that's probably why. I shouldn't be hatin' on the book.

and you're probably wondering what's with the "monday, string beans" thing, right? well. see. I have four younger siblings. one of them is almost five. he loves, and I mean loves that book/song. and my other little brother hates string beans. I normally don't mind mondays, like my little brother doesn't mind that song...but today, I'm minding monday very much. it's a string bean monday. a normally lovely day ruined by unnecessary things, and in my brother's opinion, it's string beans. I know, my thesis is warped.

anywho.

I will post some pictures of the craft fair soon...until then, hi ho, hi ho, it's off to school I go...

-r

p.s.-
I have a cousin named Attikus. he was named after Atticus from the book, but his parents spelled it with a k. brilliance, I know. and you're jealous, this I know also. and I will proceed to make you even more jealous by telling you that his brother is named Anakin. and you thought my name was different...their names contain a level of awesome that very few people are capable of obtaining...including myself.

weekday wanderings: indian summer

lets hit the road jack!

beauty.

the baby brother with his worm. for the record: i was the one who "caught" it. and then proceeded to wipe it's slime on James' shirt.

James and the little brother wrestling

the bestie being a dork. (yes, you are, but I love you...)

cowboy boots. cause no weekday wanderings post will ever be complete without them.

donut. with sprinkles. yes.

through the windshield (window, this time) shot. but I still love it.

&&

I realize the lighting is terrible...but I love these two shots. singing country music (no, blasting it) is one of my favorite things to do with my best friends ♥

country music ♥

(this one was just too pretty and true to life in coloring to leave out...) it is all really that blue. indeed.

this  week has been beautiful. gorgeous temperatures. gorgeous lighting. gorgeous everything. Tuesday was spent at the lake, touring Ehrman Mansion with my homeschool group...and dude, that house is amazing. Seriously. But afterwards we (being me and all my friends on the field trip too) got to go swimming off the dock there, it was beautiful. Then after James, myself, Becca and Rachel, all went and got ice cream on the lake...to which I didn't take pictures of because we devoured it so quick. Oh, yeah. And the guy at the ice cream stand? he was from somewhere in Europe, and totally adorable...he started flirting with us girls and it was pretty funny...James was less than thrilled though. which made it all the more amusing! ha!

anyway. that is all the wandering I can do for this weekday.

birthday finds

eeep! so. I know I'm quite late in posting about my birthday trip, but hey, better late than never!

We started out the day with cinnamon rolls and a delicious omelet my daddy made. My parents gave me photoshop and two really gorgeous pieces of vintage inspired jewelry that are super versatile, and I recieved some money from my grandparents as well. Oh yes, and my sister gave me this insanely obnoxious singing cat card. (I will hurt her for it someday...revenge is coming! hahaha...)

Anyway. Then we were off. The first antique store we hit was awesome. but nothing I really wanted. OH! Except for a set of 7 vintage mini-budnt pans. SO CUTE! Then we had lunch. Sushi. Silly me forgot my camera...boo! :( But luckily my mimi had hers on her :) moving on though.

Vintage Pyrex Divided Dish in Perfect Condition

Remember this baby? Well. I was meandering the many aisles of this antique mall. and then I hear my Mimi call me over to where she is. I make my way through the maze of amazing-ness (see what I did there? ha!) and then I saw it. Glorious pyrex jackpot! Okay, well, not really, but it was a baby-baby-baby jackpot, okay? Anyway. I was looking through everything and trying to find a piece I had been wanting. but alas, nothing. until I looked down and SHABAM! there it was. The 1958 fall promotional Barbed Wire 1.5 quart divided casserole dish. And I may or may not have let out a couple little squeals of joy...

I am not ashamed to say that I am quite happy with this purchase. Ahh!

And remember that Blue Horizon Casserole dish I posted a picture of? Well, I didn't find the dish, but I did find the two patterned nesting bowls out of the original alternating set of four, in which the order goes solid/pattern/solid/pattern...I now have to find the two coordinating solid bowls! Yay! more treasure hunting! :)

I didn't buy anything else - there was so much to see! I looked at a lot though. I found a lot of gorgeous things, things that I have no use for now, but someday might try to search for them again. Turning 16 was fun...but it was really just another day for me, spent with my mom and mimi, full of blessings.

I am awaiting pictures from my Mimi though...the disc she gave me isn't working :( but when I have them...so will you! :)

birthday treasure hunting plans

today is my last day of being fifteen...ah, sigh. it only took me long enough...I swear. people have been thinking I'm 16 for two years. now I'm *this close* and it's really not that exciting...but oh well. it's a good excuse to do something that's pretty much amazing...antique shopping! eep! I know, so not a typical thing to do for your sixteenth birthday...but if I always did what was expected my blog would be totally boring and i'd have even less followers...ha. so I wanna show you what I'm on the hunt for, ready?

Vintage Pyrex - lots of vintage Pyrex. These are the specific pieces I am on the prowl for...

Next item? Frames. I don't think I need to post pictures of those though...ha...

Also, vintage coke crates. LOVE.

I desperately want to do something like this someday. Either in my house or in my room now or something. It's amazing.

That's it, really. I'm of course gonna be looking for vintage Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books, anything Strawberry Shortcake or Holly Hobbie, and vintage patterns && sewing notions.

I can't wait for tomorrow - solely because I get to go treasure hunting!
