the great gatsby movie

Okay, so can we please, pretty pretty please talk about how excited I am for this movie?

I know, I know, "But it's the great gatsby....that book is awful..."

My retaliation? "But it's Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire....hellllllloooooo!" Observe:

Leo is playin Jay Gatsby {thank you Jesus!} and Tobey is playing Nick Carraway...ah. PERFECTION.
But back to the book...I honestly didn't mind it too much! I had to read it at the end of school last year, and it wasn't half bad. But it all depends on the reader, I suppose. The book really sheds a very bright light on that time period and what was/wasn't acceptable...it's startling the things that take place in the novel.

Anyway.

Here is the IMBD page for it - check it out and tell me what you think! I want to know if anyone else is excited for this!! :) Also - I can't find the trailer anywhere on the web yet...however I've seen some form of a trailer on TV a couple times...if you find one, feel free to shoot me a tweet or email with the link :)

music monday - november

Here are my favorite songs from November :)

Such an adorable song!!

I'm a sucker for John Mayer, as you know. Man, I love this song. Such an awesome feel :)

Who doesn't love a song title Banana Pancakes? I mean really.

I know, another old song that you're saying "it's old news, chicka" to, but hey. I have liked these songs forever...I just liked them a lot more this month. hahaha. p.s. this guy is really unattractive. It's sad.

Coldplay, I love you so. And honey, the gap in your teeth is so endearing :) I adore that too...

I want to be the next Colbie Caillat...hahaha oh the things us kids dream. Silly me.

Eli Young Band is one of my favorite country bands EVER.

Pleaseeee don't hate me for this one. I don't exactly "like" Taylor Swift. But I respect her as a musician. She has some pretty good abilities as a songwriter, which I admire. But I really don't like that she claims to be country...because anyone who knows what real country is knows it's not her. Bummer, huh?

Ahh, Adele. I kind of have an obsession with you.

I would like to know why on earth I love these guys so much...? Gosh. J'adore.

Just ten of my favorites. The list probably contains a good 50, but I just picked 10 of my top 20 - these are in no order at all...so. Anyway. :) Hope your monday was fantastic!

p.s.
I realized that my GIF of my sister eating pie didn't show up properly. Head on over to this post to see the cuteness that is my sister on thanksgiving :)

p.p.s.
Also! The ladies over at The Letter 4 and Rach from Family Ever After are hosting and amazing giveaway for TWO Shabby Apple pieces. Go stop by Rach's blog to enter!!

dear santa

Traveling Translator Tote

Dear Santa,

I've fallen in love with this $100 handbag. Could you be so kind as to deliver it to me Christmas Morning?

Thank you, I send my love.

Sincerely,
Ruthanne

a fantastic weekend

I'm currently sitting in our trailer while the gang heads out to pick up our crab pots one last time.

It's been quite a trip, a fun trip, and an enjoyable trip :)

The way crabbing on the coast of California works is like this. The minimum for a "legal" crab is 5 3/4 inches across at it's widest point. The season is soooo good right now, that we kept nothing below 6 1/2....which is seriously messed up, cause my dad threw back soooo many legal crab yesterday, they just weren't as big as he wanted, and we had plenty of time to make sure we got all the big ones we want. Crazy.

Everyone on the boat is allowed 10 crab...so we had to potential to get 60 crab yesterday. But we just kept 40 because we knew we were going back out tomorrow to pull the pots again. :)

Then last night I made some killer crab bisque, if I do say so myself. However, cooking in the kitchen in our trailer is not fun......it's a paiiiiiiin. But oh well. It was a good experience :) here are a few pics from my instagram :)

I hope everyone has had a great weekend! I can't wait to get home and catch up on everyone's lives! :)

gone crabbin'

As you're reading this, I'm probably in the truck, driving off to the coast for the weekend, to go crabbing with my daddy and uncle! :) There's gonna be 6 of us, and we can each get 10 crab a piece...so...we've got some potential. Dungeness crab, baby, here we come!

So, I will not really be able to post. However, if you follow me on twitter (@KROLMEISTER) you may be able to still keep up with me :)

But I just had to share this adorableness with you.

Photobucket

That is basically what she did allllllllllll day and alllllllllllll evening.

Gotta love one year olds.

Hope your thanksgiving was fantastic and that your weekend is too! :)

xoxo,
-Ruthanne

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American friends!
I have so much to be thankful for; so much to praise God for. He is good.

Hope you all have a wonderful day, and remember to be thankful not only today but every day :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

p.s.
I know these post cards seem kinda random but they were too too cute to resist! Had to share them as well :)

outfit post: purple is pretty.

Outfit post! I know there are a LOT of pictures...But....guess who took them? MY 13 year old brother....YEP.

So I kinda had to show them off...cause he did a pretty good job...all things considered, at least.

Dress: gift from Lucy (yeah, she has a blog. get your butts over there! and...she lives in europe, i.e. Germany/England. so double whammy. go go go go goooo!) She bought it at a little store in Germany...so cute :)
Sweater: Target
Tights: Target
Boots: Burlington coat factory forever ago
Pearls & Brooch: gift from Momma

The dress is kinda short even on my short legs - but it's still adorable with tights :) I love it - and Lucy, my dearest, I seriously can't thank you enough, this is such a cute dress!!

22.11.11

this is what a 13 year old looks like...

Need I say more? Oh dear me.

that awkward moment...

{just a compiliation of last week's awkward moments. had to share!}

when a 12 year old boy, who is the little brother of one of your guy friends, whom you skiied with last year, doesn't remember you, then when you remind him who you are, he says "wow, you're really short" yeah.
awkward.

when you try on a dress from Plato's closet, and a really cute guy walks by while you're showing your cousin and he says "that looks really great, you should get it."
awkward.

when the guy who is going to be renting a room at your best friends house for the winter thinks you are 19 or 20...when you're only 16.
awkward.

when your baby sister goes to the pantry, retrieves all of the sweet potatoes reserved for thanksgiving, and strategically places them all over the kitchen/livingroom/hall in places where you will trip.
awkward.

when you're practicing for sunday night worship before church, and your worship team all forgets their music, so then you have to make them copies with your sloppy, messy notes, and they tell you your 'j' looks like a 'l'...and you don't disagree.
awkward.
when you go to see breaking dawn with your best friend, and during the whole honeymoon scene you are giggling like crazy cause it's soooooooooo
awkward.

when you type the word "awkward" over five times and realize that it is truly the epitome of the definition of
awkward.

modcloth contest: make the cut

I just saw this contest on ModCloth and I am so excited! :) I just had to share with you! :)

(from the modcloth blog)

We just got one step closer to fulfilling our mission to democratize fashion… because Velvet Brigade has joined ModCloth!
Velvet Brigade is a vibrant fashion community in which aspiring designers submit their sketches to be voted on by other members. However, they’ll be closing up shop soon, so we’d like to take this opportunity to invite their community to join us for one stellar style event — the Make the Cut Contest!
Are you an aspiring designer or up-and-coming fashion phenom? We want to make your design dreams a reality. Our Make the Cut Contest asks you to submit sketches that are inspired by Susan’s marvelous moodboard and fit our aesthetic. From there, Susan will select her top picks, and from 12/12 to 12/16, our fab Facebook fans will vote on the winners. The champs will receive a bevy of beneficence: $500 per winning sketch, and their items will be produced and sold on ModCloth.com — with the winners’ names on their respective tags.
Yup, you read that right! We will be debuting the winning garments right here in Spring 2012, along with styles based on the ravishing renderings in Susan’s moodboard. Ready and rarin’ to go? First, check out these design tips:
  • Make sure your sketch clearly highlights one piece of clothing, not an entire outfit
  • Sketches look best on a light grey or white background
  • Keep in mind who you are designing for — the ModCloth customer
  • Each image should be saved as a JPG file no more than 5MB
  • The ideal format is vertical with a 3×5 dimension ratio
And now, here are all the deets:
  • You may submit entries for up to 5 garments
  • Sketches may be submitted up until 12 p.m. PT on 12/4/2011
  • All entries must be submitted to makethecut@modcloth.com
  • The winners will be announced on 12/19 here on the blog
  • Five winning sketches will be chosen, and $500 will be awarded per piece
  • Winning designs will be produced and sold on ModCloth.com, and feature tags bearing the designer’s name
  • All the official contest rules and regulations can be found here
So, gather inspiration from the stunning swatches, iconic illustrations, and haute hues of Susan’s board, and then get started. It doesn’t matter whether you sketch, draw, paint, or Photoshop, we just want to see your best stuff.
We can’t wait to see the imaginative, incredible images you come up with!

new pyrex; snowflake casserole dish

I spaced on posting this! Last saturday in Virginia City, I bought this beautiful piece of pyrex. It's practically flawless; and I am so in love! The blue is so very pretty too! :) Eep!

This week I have so much to show you! I bought some killer new clothes this weekend - and one of those things was a really surprising and amazing find! I can't wait to post about it :) I also bought some amazing fabric for a capelet I plan on making...and I need inspiration! So if you have any ideas, have seen a cute pattern for one...let me know! :)

Happy Monday!! :)

christmas solo.

I think I'm going to play/sing this for our Christmas Eve services at church this year! I was asked to do a "solo" but loved this song too much not to do it, which will require a couple people to help out :) but it will be a blast. What do you think of it?

Let me know what you think :) I am really excited to do it; it's so beautiful and the lyrics are incredible.

Hope your weekends were great - mine was fabulous, yet exhausting! So many great things coming this week for you! :)

xoxo!

18.11.11

confession time...oh dear me.

{Warning: this post may or may not take up ten minutes of your time}

So....I hope that you do not judge me by what I am about to tell you...because it is kind of sad and depressing...

I am going to see the new Twilight movie tomorrow.....

I know. What is wrong with me????

Here's the deal...my best friend LOVES the series. Like...she's not obsessed, but she loves the books and movies so much...And I don't really love it..ha...I tried to read the books, and HATED them..and I hate the fact that the movies are such a big thing, and that everybody likes/loves/worships them...but if I put all that aside, they're not that bad...and the most pathetic part, compared to most television shows and other movies, they're fairly low in inappropriate content...I mean, aside from the whole vampire werewolf thing...for example.

The Notebook. Such a good movie, right? As long as you fast forward through the first awkward scene in their future house where nothing actually happens it's just incredibly awkward...{I said that already, I know..} and then the second scene/scenes when they are both older....Nope, still not a good movie..

Lets be honest. The whole movie is centered around the immorality that the world has deemed O.K. I mean, Noah asks Allie out, they go out, date, break up a million times but then get back together after he or she kisses the other...Really? I personally believe you should date to marry - and that means you have no reason to date in high school, because who gets married in high school?? That's another post though...moving on.

Anyway.

Then she has to leave, and falls in love with another man, gets engaged...but suddenly, there's Noah again, and all those emotions come back...which leads to her being unfaithful to her fiance...ruining her relationship with him, which isn't all that bad, cause it was centered a lot around money, partially from her parents pressuring her to be involved with him for the money...lame. So many problems reside in that short-not-even-close-enough-to-a-full-description blip right there, alone!

Do you see what I mean? It's really sad when a movie placed in the forties is more immoral {for the most part} than a movie placed in the first decade of the 21st century...because you and I both know how screwed up today's world is...Yes, Bella struggles with feelings for both Edward and Jacob, but always knows she loves Edward...right? {I am no twilight expert, I could be getting this all wrong. I just watch the movies..} And they save sex for marriage - something that I can say I haven't seen done in a movie in years. Granted, I don't go to the movies all that often cause they are 45 minutes away, and I don't watch a ton of TV in general, but still.

Look at the shows on TV these days...The Secret Life of the American Teenager? Appalling. The Playboy Club? I have never even considered watching that show, but the previews tell me enough. Terrible. Bones, even, one of my favorite shows ever! Or what about MadMen? That show, I feel, though I love the idea of it, is centered around infidelity. It's terrible. Twilight definitely has it's issues, I know...but compared to other things, it probably won't be that bad...I did read a review done by a Christian site on the movie, and they said there are some inappropriate-for-the-movies scenes, but, it is a different kind of inappropriate because it's done under the blanket of marriage - I have a feeling I'll just put my head under my sweatshirt and tell them to save it for off camera time...gosh.

So I'm going...and I'm a little scared....I didn't go with her to see the other ones...but her and her older sister are "dragging" {not really} me to go with them...I'll letcha know how it goes...

Besides, if I'm going to bash something, I want to know what I'm talking about...that's logical, right? Right.

And I think I just wrote the longest post I've posted on my blog yet...well. I don't blame you if you didn't read the whole thing...

favorite photo friday

I love the movie Cars; I love Mater; and I love this photo. My little brother asked me to do a "photo shoot" with his Mater toy car, so because I would go to the moon if he asked me to, or dive off a cliff for him, or something else that is totally impossible, I did :) And this is one of my favorites from my "session" with Mater *wink* ha...ha...ha...The chipped paint ont he teeth just makes it even better! bahahahah.

Okay....so this week I want to see one of your favorite non-human non-nature photos. The more unthinkable the better :) Leave me a link and I'll check it out :)

Happy friday!!

christmas dress & christmas music

So it's getting to be that time of year again..time to start looking for a Christmas eve dress.

I am playing/singing a song this year for both of our Christmas Eve services {I did one last year, too} and as of now I will also be the team doing all of the music for the evening...sooooo...I need to find a dress...that's red...or something....red is great but it could be black or something else too....and I need to find a pattern to make one...or just find fabric and try to whip one up. Who knows. But I want to find one/make one something resembling these ones on ModCloth :)

This is my favorite dress right now...Love it so much.

This is a good, simple, dress that would be really cute with maybe a red cardigan? I love it.

This one is just too stinkin' cute...wouldn't really work though, because with how cold it is, you always need a sweater and that shoulder bow would get it the way :( sad.

Black tights, red heels, black cardigan...cute red headband....would be cute, right?

Frock Brand Dress
This is my second most favorite one...So very bold and perfect.

Here's the main problem, though, with finding/buying/making dresses. Around here, no one ever really dresses up, unless it's prom, a wedding, graduation or a funeral. And even then all of those are fairly casual. As you saw in my Sunday best post, that's basically the norm, usually, for Sunday mornings...so Christmas Eve services are kind of hard to figure out what to wear to, cause you want to look nice if you're going to be on stage, but not *too* nice. So...you see my problem, right?

See, look at this dress! I love it, and I would so be down for wearing it except it's a smidgen too much...sad, isn't it? :(

Which one do you like best? And if not any of these, do you have any other suggestions? It's generally around 20 degrees farenheit on winter evenings here, give or take....well...mostly take..ha! So it makes it even more fun to shop for winter appropriate dresses...joy.

Also...I've been listening to Christmas music since Halloween...and I need some new music, I haven't bought any albums this year, yet...any recommendations?

16.11.11

city streets in watercolor.

I was just catching up on Katie's blog, and I saw this gorgeous picture in one of her posts...

Is it just me, or does it look like some crazy awesome valley at first? With huuuuge cliffs on either side?

It kinda tripped me at first...cause I saw the yellow cabs....and I was like...wait...but I think it may have been done on purpose....I dunno, it's a pretty picture, none the less.

This painting also reminds me of my many journeys to the east coast in fall. Big cities, rain, puddles, perfection. I'm a mountain girl for sure, and I love my home, but there is nothing like going to the city, for me. Something magical, altogether. My favorite "big city" that I've ever visited is probably either DC or Boston.

Also...has anyone else had problems in the last few months with following blogs? I've been trying to follow Michelle's blog, Oh, Mishka for a good five or six months, and I just yesterday was able to follow...so weird! And now I can't follow Katie's blog Off Switch, either....so frustrating. Anyway. Happy wednesday! :)

p.s.
Leave me a comment telling me your favorite city and why, if you like! I'd love to know :)

15.11.11

hmmm...header...

So it's late..I just got done cleaning my room, doing laundry and moving a bit of furniture around...and I need your help. I made a new header earlier, while I was procrastinating on the things mentioned above. I put it up - maybe some of you saw it, maybe not. You're seeing it now though, haha. I need a vote on which one you like best. Okay..not a vote...more like an opinion....soo....do you like......

this one....?
 or this one?

just curious, mostly. I love the top one. Like a looooooot...but I love the other one too...hmm...

hmmmmmmm....

p.s.
I also want to redo my little about picture if I keep the new header. It clashes too much with the profile view on each of them...okay...all done! :)

virginia city, nevada, in black and white.

he wouldn't look at me...so I just took the picture and was done with it. kinda funny actually.

-------------------------

Okay. Two things.

One: virginia city isn't all it's cracked up to be. It's used to be a huuuuge silver mining town, and now it's just a touristy dump...and I don't like tourists. So yeah. That matter aside, it's still kinda fun. A few antique stores reside there, which I visited{read: I scoured all of the stores until I found a piece of pyrex I desired and that was reasonably priced, and then I bought it, after cleverly charming the owner to lower the price by three bucks. what can I say, it's a gift...}, and some yummy candy shops. Plus the old time photo places...which is the whole reason we went there. The last time we had old time pictures taken was 6 years ago...before my two youngest siblings were born...so we figured we were due to update them. 'twas fun. you'll see them eventually.

Secondly: these are some of my most favorite abstract - random - purposeless photos I have ever taken.

Also. the pictures below are of me and my "baby" brother...he reminds me of the amish, not looking directly at the camera....I guess that makes me from hollywood. figures. lame.

Oh, and, forgive me and my dad's strange expression in the following picture....I told him to smile and that's what he did....and I knew he was going to do that, so I did it too, but anyway. yeah.

 {my dad and I being...well...my dad and I...... }

And this picture turned out reallllly cute. My gosh. I have cute siblings. {yes, I am bragging..}

{little sister posing, for ONCE! The heavens opened, angels rejoiced..yada yada yada}

Okay. I'm done now. Really. I swear.

Yep. Totally done.

Hope you had a great tuesday! :)
